“Nate Sexton on Going Pro, Sexton Firebird, & Building a Legacy”

Nate Sexton is a professional disc golfer based in the Pacific Northwest. He turned pro in 2004, competed full time alongside Paul McBeth, won the PDGA Sportsmanship Award in 2017, and has become one of the most beloved figures in the sport as a player, commentator, ambassador, and educator. His signature disc, the Sexton Firebird, remains one of the best-selling molds in the game. He is sponsored by Innova, Pound, and Idio Sports . He is signed through age 43 and is, by his own account, potentially the first person to retire comfortably from a career in disc golf.

“The House That Firebird Built”

Nate Sexton was throwing frisbees before he could throw a baseball. By the time he was good enough to win, he wasn’t sure the world would pay him to.

So he made a deal with his wife. If he couldn’t bring in $30,000 that year, he’d walk away. Go teach high school science, summers off, back to playing for fun. It was a reasonable plan. A safe one. And he was almost okay with it.

Almost.
